During this season, snow blankets the hiking trails, making them unsuitable for trekking (except for elite hikers). 📌 Gambling with "Days Available" and "Weather"
We arranged a 9-day, 8-night trip, and chose to depart in June (slightly avoiding the priciest peak season).
First, June usually marks the transition of bus schedules into the summer adjustment period, increasing frequencies on certain routes compared to winter 🚌, making it friendlier for carless travelers.
Second, it enters the period of the "Midnight Sun" or perpetual daylight 🌞, allowing you to travel from sunrise until... sunrise?
In the vocabulary of the Arctic Circle, the word "stable" simply does not exist when describing weather. 💫
Since this was a rare trip and luck is seldom on our side, we didn't want to gamble with Mother Nature 🎲
Extending our stay provided a weather buffer;ven if hit by torrential rain 🌧️ or gloomy, heavy clouds ☁️,
we had the resilience to wait out the storm until the sun broke through ✨.
✈️ 3 Main Ways to Get to Lofoten
egardless of your choice, you must first ensure there is a bus connecting your arrival point to your accommodation 🏠.
Alternatively, you can attempt to hitchhike along the E10 highway—word is the success rate is quite high.
1️⃣✈️ Evenes Airport (EVE):
2️⃣ Regional Airports ✈️ Leknes (LKN) / Svolvær (SVJ): For travelers with high budgets and tight schedules.
3️⃣ Bodø Ferry Terminal (Bodø ferjekai): Free for foot passengers 🚢; this is the option we chose.
Our specific route was as follows:
Bodø⚓→ Moskenes⚓→Reine(4 nights)→Leknes(2 nights)→ Kabelvåg(2 nights)→Narvik→Abisko(Sweden).
We flew ✈️ from Oslo (OSL) to Bodø (BOO). Since we arrived in the evening, we stayed in Bodø for one night.

Leaving the Lofoten Islands, Norway, for Abisko., Sweden：
Travelers whose journey ends right after completing Lofoten can head out via an airport or ferry port.
For us, we wanted to extend our trip into Sweden.
On our final day,we took the REIS bus line 300all the way northeast to Narvik
which features a train station for cross-border travel.Abisko, Sweden.

Lofoten is long and narrow from north to south, so we set up bases in the northern (Svolvær), central (Leknes), and southern (Reine) regions respectively.
We opted out of experiencing Lofoten's traditional waterfront fishing cabins (Rorbuer)—purely to save money 💰.
We strictly looked for the cheapest Airbnb private double rooms that met the following three criteria: . . . .
- Near an E10 highway bus stop: The E10 is the transport lifeline of Lofoten, with major bus routes running along this main artery. Being closer to a stop means less walking after stepping off.
- Within walking distance of a local supermarket: Low bus frequencies prevent long-distance grocery errands. Since dining out in Lofoten is extremely expensive, supermarkets are your lifeline.
- Must feature a fully equipped kitchen: Needless to say, this is the key to controlling your budget.

— Traditional fishing village district; the top choice if your time is limited.
Adhering to our three main accommodation selection rules, we chose a place right next to the bus stop Kvalvik.

"Stairway Hell" itself. Climbing its 1,987 steps will make you question your life choices, but upon reaching the summit and seeing that postcard-perfect perspective, you will forgive it entirely.

This hidden beach requires taking a bus to the Reine pier followed by a local ferry, making it highly dependent on boat schedules.
Be absolutely certain of the return ferry times—there are no facilities on the island, and many visitors come here to camp overnight.
Second Stop: Central Base - Leknes ( 2 nights)
— A standard modern Norwegian town
Unlike the dreamlike, postcard-perfect fishing villages of Reine
, Leknes serves as both the geographical center and the modern commercial heart of the Lofoten Islands.
Supermarkets and transit are not a concern here, though there isn't much to see in the town center itself.
We focused our efforts on trekking nearby trails.

Hauklandwas the only trail that truly gave us a "vacation vibe"—flat and relaxing. You can optionally add an ascent up Mount Mannen to admire the sweeping curvature of the bay.
Nusfjord Fishing Village:🔴 Highly unfriendly to travelers without cars.
It was virtually inaccessible without a vehicle, so we unfortunately had to skip it. 😭
Third Stop: Northern Base - Kabelvåg ( 2 nights)
— I wanted to stay in Svolvær too, you know!
Svolvær, the largest town in the Lofoten Islands, aggregates every amenity a traveler could need
hotels, supermarkets, outdoor gear shops, restaurants, cafés, souvenir shops, and day tours.
However, properties in Kabelvåg—located just 5 kilometers away—are "relatively" cheaper. What can I say? 😅

We had anticipated viewing the striking boulder suspended between the canyon walls alongside magnificent ocean vistas, but ultimately only saw a boulder floating in a total whiteout.

Yet, standing amidst the lingering snow and emerging greenery of late spring and early summer in June
gazing out at the fjords and islands sculpted by ancient glaciers
—this singular Nordic landscape possesses the power to soothe all exhaustion.
The Lofoten Islands remain, to this day, the most beautiful destination we have ever laid eyes upon
—a veritable promised land that we are bound to revisit in the future.
